The Gecina Innovation Challenge is a call for projects open to French companies and startups. The aim: to conceive innovative solutions to reinvent office building basements and find smart new uses for these spaces. This challenge is open until November 24, 2019. Time to share your projects!  

Castellum has become a member of the sustainability and innovation think tank originally created in late 2017 by Alstria, COIMA RES, Colonial, Gecina, Great Portland Estates and NSI. It is the only Nordic real estate company to be part of this collaboration.

Created in 2016, the California-based venture capital fund manager Fifth Wall Ventures is focused on technologies serving the real estate sector. Today, it has over 900 million dollars in committed and invested capital under management across multiple funds, raised primarily from a limited number of major international investors, investing in companies that are developing innovative real estate-related solutions: energy efficiency, data and statistics, digitalization, modular construction, smart cities, Blockchain, urban mobility, etc.

Gecina is continuing to develop its range of services by offering its customers a solution to sign their leases electronically. Extended to cover all its residential buildings and student residences, this new service, rolled out in partnership with the startup YouSign, is proving very popular with tenants: digital signatures have been used for more than 97% of the leases signed since the start of March.

In line with the acceleration of its innovation policy, Gecina has signed an agreement to invest 5 million euros in the regional investment fund “Paris Fonds Vert”, managed by teams with renowned track records.

All too often, discussions of this topic focus exclusively on technical novelty and take a quasi-religious form, namely that of "technological solutionism" aimed at solving all the evils of the planet. Yet real innovation – i.e., innovation that endures over time and is relevant to human affairs – is more about a broader vision of what is at stake. It is an invitation to question the implications of scientific, technological and societal progress. The subject of innovation prompts a whole series of answers. But we still need to set objectives to make sure it is shared, sustainable and positive. That means putting into words the use to which we wish to put innovation, its overriding purpose.
