Gecina wins a MIPIM Award in Cannes for its “7 Madrid” building
During a ceremony held on September 8 in Cannes, Gecina won a MIPIM Award in the Best Refurbished Building category for its 7 Madrid building in Paris’ 8th arrondissement.
This MIPIM Award recognizes an ambitious redevelopment, led by Gecina, of a historic building, a former Jesuit college, into an office building and flexible spaces aligned with new practices.
This project, designed by the agency Dubuisson Architecture, has made it possible to reinvent an architectural unity for this real estate complex of around 12,000 sq.m, marked by several lives and six different construction periods.
By optimizing all of its flows, bringing in natural light, developing a timber-frame extension, creating an in-ground interior garden and designing a glass atrium, a new interpretation of Paris’ zinc roofs with a dedicated section for generating solar power, this has helped create a living space that is aligned with the best standards of comfort, modularity and energy efficiency.
“A magnificent collective adventure, 7 Madrid is an outstanding case study. How could we take a building from 1876, and modified several times during the 20th century, forward into our era? The teams from Gecina and the agency Dubuisson Architecture successfully met several challenges to reinvent this part of Haussmann heritage and design a living space that will truly empower shared human experiences”, confirms Romain Veber, Executive Director Investment and Development.
